NEXT CHARGE TO THE CLASSIFICATION LEAD ON APRIL 1ST AT CIRCUITO INTERNAZIONALE NAPOLI.
NEW WSK TITLE CONTENDERS FROM MURO LECCESE.
The weekend of Muro Leccese (Lecce, Italy) has allowed other drivers to close in on top of the classifications of the WSK Super Master Series 2018. International karting has seen the competitiveness of several drivers grow, after the early lead taken by the winners of the season opener in Adria (Rovigo), early in February. The rematch of round 2 – the race cancelled in Lonato (Brescia) due to an exceptional snow fall – will take place in Sarno (Salerno) during the weekend of April 1st. This is going to be the first chance to prepare for the sprint to the line of the series, that will name the absolute winners one week afterwards on Sunday April 8th.
DE CONTO GOT THE LEAD IN KZ2.
Paolo De Conto (CRG-TM-Bridgestone) put in a flawless weekend in Muro Leccese and secured the lead of the KZ2 classification. The Italian claimed all the points up for grabs, closing qualifying heats on top before winning the Prefinal and Final. The 132 points hauled in La Conca allowed De Conto to get past the driver from Locorotondo (Bari) Alex Irlando (Sodi Kart-TM). A physical problem slowed down the latter in fact, and he could not score many points, slipping down to the second place of the standings at 101 points. The Italian Marco Ardigò (Tony Kart-Vortex) is trailing him only 3 points shy. His comeback to racing in Muro Leccese has ended with the second place in the Final. The third place secured in this race also launched the Czech driver Patrik Hajek (Kosmic-Vortex), who is now 4th at 70 pts and managed to get the position previously held by the French Adrien Renaudin (Sodi Kart-TM), who is now fifth at 66 points.
EVERYONE CHASING JANKER IN OK.
The closing laps of the OK Final have been fatal for Nicklas Nielsen (Tony Kart-Vortex-Bridgestone). He led the pack throughout the race, but eventually could not win the three-way fight that involved Barbados’ Zak Maloney (FA Kart-Vortex) and the British driver Jonny Edgar (Exprit-TM). The awaited classification switch of Nielsen on the German Hannes Janker (KR-Parilla) did not happen then, as the latter managed to keep the classification lead at 144 points, despite having scored only a seventh place. Muro Leccese has been smiling to Edgar, who was second in the Final and secured also the second place in the classification at 128 points, leading Nielsen in third at 122. The fight on top has been made more exciting also by the arrival of Maloney, who climbed up to 94 points thanks, to the victory in the Final. The Spanish driver Pedro Hiltbrand (CRG-TM) also got some ground back taking the podium and the fifth place of the standings at 85 points with it.
SMAL LEADING THE VERY MANY RIVALS IN OK JUNIOR.
Hadrien David’s odds (Kosmic-Vortex-Vega) are rising in OK Junior: after scoring very few points in the opener, the French recovered well in La Conca winning the Final and climbing up to the fourth place of the classification at 112 points. The Russian Kirill Smal (Tony Kart-Vortex) did not manage to do the same and, despite keeping the lead at 157, he was only ninth behind a good lot of fierce rivals. Closing in on Smal, the Brazilian Gabriel Bortoleto (CRG-TM) took second in the Final and stands second equal on points with the Italian Gabriele Minì (Parolin-Parilla) at 121 points. The other strong candidate to the win in the mix is the Estonian Paul Aron (FA-Vortex), who claimed a podium and is currently fifth at 110 points.
STENSHORNE KEEPING THE LEAD IN 60 MINI.
The challenge is now open between the Norwegian Martinius Stenshorne (Parolin-TM-Vega) and the Italian Andrea Antonelli (Energy-TM), that are respectively first and second in the 60 Mini classification at 150 and 136 points. The Final of Muro Leccese has seen the two crossing the finish line in inverted positions, at the end of a weekend dominated by Antonelli in the heats and Prefinal. The first part of the season has made some other strong drivers come to the fore: namely, the Czech Tymoteusz Kucharczyk (Parolin-TM), who is in the top 3 at 108 points, but also the Russian Kirill Kutskov (Energy-TM), who stands fourth at 89 points following the podium scored in the Final last Sunday. The Italian Jacopo Cimenes (EvoKart-TM) is also closing in and stands fifth at 83 points.
