THE SEASON-OPENER AT THE ADRIA KARTING RACEWAY.
The first times of the season were set today at the WSK Champions Cup. This time, after the pre-season tests which took place at the past two weekends, the 216 scrutineered drivers raced to achieve the pole-positions in tomorrow’s heats.
EXCELLENT DEBUT OF THE OK ENGINES.
The WSK Champions Cup has brought the new OK engines to the northern Italian circuit. Their performance has been just outstanding: the comparison with the old KF categories – which closed the 2015 WSK season right on this track last November – says that this brand-new technology seems to be a step ahead: the times set in the OK Junior category (reserved to drivers from 13 years of age) proved that the OK Junior can keep up with the KF and that it is going to be even much faster soon. It is a fact that today’s pole-position, achieved by the Moroccan driver Sami Taoufik (FA Alonso-Vortex-Vega), is over a tenth of a second better than the one set in KFJ last year. In the OK category things went even better: the pole-position of the KFJ world champion, the American Logan Sargeant (FA Alonso-Vortex-Vega), was 7 tenths of a second faster than the one recorded in last year’s KF race. At the end of the first day of the event, the performance of the new engines was excellent on all the karts taking part in the contest and, of course, there are great expectations for the further technological improvement.
THE RESULTS OF QUALIFYING AT THE ADRIA KARTING RACEWAY.
Logan Sargeant, thanks to his 47”748, beat the Italian Lorenzo Travisanutto into second position in the OK category, while the Danish Nicklas Nielsen (both on Tony Kart-Vortex-Vega) finished third. Sami Taoufik stopped the clock at 49”546 and grabbed the pole in the OKJ. Second position for the Belgian Ulysse De Pauw (BirelArt-Parilla-Vega) who finished ahead of the Russian Pavel Bulantsev (Tony Kart-Vortex-Vega). In KZ, the Italian Lorenzo Camplese (Parolin-TM-Vega) was the fastest with 47”598 and finished ahead of another Italian, Paolo De Conto (CRG-Maxter-Vega), and the German Alexander Schmitz (Tony Kart-Vortex-Vega). Finally the free practice of the 60 Mini (the category qualifying is scheduled for tomorrow morning), where the fastest time was set by Andrea Antonelli (Exprit-TM-Vega) in 55”891.
