THE WSK MASTER SERIES STANDINGS AFTER THE FIRST HALF OF THE CHAMPIONSHIP. Also the WSK Master, in this eventful beginning of season, has completed its first half. In the WSK paddock everybody talks about ideal settings and engines as well as of standings. They are all important conversation topics in the race towards the WSK title. After the second round in Sarno (Italy) last weekend, there are two more rounds: on 2nd May in Precenicco (Udine, Italy) and on 4th July in Castelletto di Branduzzo (Pavia, Italy).
MAX VERSTAPPEN KEEPS THE KZ2 LEADERSHIP. The Dutch Max Versteppen (CRG-TM-Bridgestone) could count on the full score achieved in the first round of Muro Leccese and, despite the adversities of his weekend in Sarno, he managed to remain on top of the standings, even though he is now closely pursued by two dangerous rivals such as Paolo De Conto (Birel-TM-Bridgestone) and Riccardo Negro (DR-TM-Bridgestone). The two Italian drivers won the two Finals of the weekend: De Conto won Final 1 on Saturday but was obliged to pull over after few laps in Final 2; Negro was unstoppable in Final 2 but managed to beat into second place Charles Leclerc (ART GP-TM-Bridgestone) only in the last meters of the race. So, De Conto halved the gap with Verstappen, who leads the standings with 101 points, while his competitors scored 70 and 64 points respectively. Leclerc and his teammate, the English Ben Hanley, follow with 57 and 48. The new ART GP couple of drivers were particularly competitive throughout the whole Southern Italian weekend, especially thanks to the driver from Monaco, Leclerc, who got very close to victory. The final sprint could be surprising.
DORIAN BOCCOLACCI CONTROLS HIS COMPETITORS IN KF. Unreachable when necessary but wise and careful when required: this is the French Dorian Boccolacci (Energy-TM-Vega), who achieved the podium twice in Sarno and managed to keep a steady pace in the standings. He is the leader of the category with 115 points and precedes Karol Basz (Tony Kart-Vortex-Vega). However, the gap between the two drivers is now reduced to 8 points, thanks to the Polish driver's victory over the French in the Final on the Circuit Napoli. The Croatian Martin Kodric (FA Kart-Vortex-Vega) is far behind and now he needs a great recovery - despite his good performance in Sarno - to close the gap with the two leaders of the standings. Kodric and the English Ben Barnicoat (ART GP-TM-Vega)- good performance in Sarno for him too - are now battling for third place. This year, KF is the category with the best talents: that's maybe why the experienced French driver Armand Convers (Kosmic-Vortex-Vega) is only fifth.
ALESSIO LORANDI PULLS AWAY IN KF JUNIOR. Despite a disastrous start in the Final. Alessio Lorandi (Tony Kart-Parilla-Vega) managed to widen the gap in the standings. He got stuck in his slot on the starting grid and dropped back to 34th position; it was then that the Italian driver started his terrific recovery which brought him as far as the final sixth place. Of course, he his expectations while reaching the pole position on the starting grid were much higher, but given that his main rival, the English Lando Norris (FA Kart-Vortex-Vega), achieved much worse results, Lorandi's weekend was not as bad as it may seem. Lorandi keeps the lead of the standings thanks to his 133 points and widens the gap with Norris, 54 points behind. The latter is now closely pursued by the Russian Nikita Sitnikov (Tony Kart-BMB-Vega), the runner-up of the final, who clinched the third place and with a gap of only six points with Norris. Also the winner of the race is Russian and named Nikita: Mazepin (Tony Kart-Vortex-Vega) rocketed himself to the fifth place. He arrived in Sarno with no points and he is now only three points behind the fourth of the standings, the Canadian Thompson (Energy-TM-Vega).
KUSH MAINI TAKES OVER LEADERSHIP IN THE 60 MINI. In the 60 Mini, too, the leader was dogged by bad luck. But this time the Spanish Eliseo Martinez (Hero-LKE-Le Cont) didn't manage to keep the leadership. The standings is now led by the Indian Kush Maini (Tony Kart-LKE-Le Cont), thanks to a second place achieved after a thrilling final. The winner, the Swedish Rasmus Lingh (Tony Kart-LKE-Le Cont) enters the standings and climbs up to the third place. The Italian Rocco Negro (Top Kart-Comer-Le Cont) is fourth, followed by Leonardo Marseglia (Top Kart-Parilla-Le Cont). The latter could have achieved a better result - both in the final and, consequently, in the standings - if the stewards hadn't hit him with a penalty.
