ON SUNDAY 21ST APRIL THE FINALS LIVE ON THE INTERNET. SPECIAL TV REPORT ON RAISPORT ON 26TH APRIL.
THE SECOND WSK WEEKEND IN SARNO HAS BEGUN. No time to breathe on the International Circuit Napoli in Sarno: the Southern Italian facility is hosting the WSK Euro Series – 3rd round of kart racing this weekend. This is the second international karting event hosted by the circuit in two weeks: at the beginning of April the racetrack was the venue of the second round of the WSK master Series. Today free practice marked the beginning of the racing weekend. After that, qualifying for the 220 scrutineered drivers of the 5 categories taking part in the race. Drivers who passed qualifying entered the heats, the last step before the Finals which will put an end to the challenge on Sunday afternoon.
KODRIC CLINCHES THE SUPERPOLE IN KF. The most important moment of the day was the Superpole, reserved to the 12 fastest drivers in the first session of KF and KFJ qualifying. On this occasion the Croatian Martin Kodric (FA Kart-Vortex-Vega) confirmed to be in peak form setting the fastest time in 1’05”006. The result is more important than it seems, because Kodric beat into second place the leader of the standings, the French Dorian Boccolacci (Energy-TM-Vega), who was only four milliseconds slower than the poleman. Third the promising Russian driver Vasily Romanov (Energy-TM-Vega), 41 milliseconds behind.
THOMPSON, FIRST SUPERPOLE IN KF JUNIOR. The big piece of news in KF Junior was the performance of the Canadian Parker Thompson (Energy-TM-Vega), at his first Superpole in WSK: he set the time at 1’06”453. The hard battle which is going on in this category too is proved by the difference of only three milliseconds between the leader and the second fastest driver, the Italian Remigio Garofano (Tony Kart-LKE-Vega), who preceded another Italian driver, Leonardo Pulcini (Tony Kart-Vortex-Vega), only 5 hundredths of a second slower than the poleman. On the other hand, the weekend for Lando Norris (FA Kart-Vortex-Vega) is going to be tough: the leader of the standings was only 6th, 0”216 behind.
KZ1, HANLEY GETS ANOTHER CHANCE ACHIEVING THE POLE. The English Ben Hanley (ART GP-TM-Bridgestone) confirmed to be the most dangerous rival for the Dutch Max Verstappen (CRG-TM-Bridgestone), current leader of the KZ1 standings. He started his race attacking and achieving the pole position thanks to his 1’03”521. For Hanley there could not have been a better moment to attack Verstappen's leadership: the Dutch driver, in fact, got stuck for an engine issue and did not manage to do better than tenth place, 3 tenths of a second slower than Hanley. On the other hand, the weekend started well for the Czech Patrik Hajek (Praga-Parilla-Bridgestone), second with a 0”169 gap, and the Dutch Bas Lammers, third and just few milliseconds behind.
NEGRO ATTACKS AND CLINCHES THE POLE IN KZ2. Spurred by the success achieved two weeks ago, the Italian Riccardo Negro (DR-TM-Bridgestone) attacks the leadership of Marco Zanchetta (Maranello-TM-Bridgestone) in KZ2 and got the pole position stopping the time at 1’03”696. Zanchetta is already obliged to fend off Negro's attacks: he is second 17 hundredths of a second behind. The race is going to be a thrilling one since the heats on schedule tomorrow. Another big name at the top in KZ2 is Alessandro Manetti's one (Praga-Parilla-Bridgestone), third with a gap of three tenths of a second from Negro.
IMPORTANT POLE FOR PAGANO IN 60 MINI. With 1’16”041, the Italian Francesco Pagano (Top Kart-Parilla-Le Cont) clinched an important pole in 60 Mini. The category is led by the Spanish Eliseo Martinez (Hero-LKE-Le Cont), who got the fourth time. The second position is occupied by the Greek Konstandinos (Hero-LKE-Le Cont), followed by the Indian Kush Maini (Tony Kart-LKE-Le Cont), one of the most dangerous rivals for Martinez in the race towards victory.
