FROM TODAY’S QUALIFYING TO THE ARRIVE OF WSK CHAMPIONS CUP.
Qualifying officially opened the second round of the WSK season-opener, the WSK Champions Cup. Also the second round of the event is being hosted by the International Circuit La Conca: drivers coming from four continents have met here again after last week’s first appointment. The categories admitted to the Cup are KF, KF Junior and 60 Mini. Once again, the weather is playing a key role in the race towards the title. This time the first part of the day enjoyed some sunny sky. Today, the KF and KFJ drivers aimed at setting the best times to fill the top position slots on the starting grids of tomorrow’s heats, on schedule from 10.30 am and which will go on throughout Saturday for a total amount of 14 races. The 60 Mini qualifying session is taking place tomorrow morning: the drivers of the midget category did some free practice today, setting the first remarkable times. There’s great excitement in the paddock: everybody is waiting for the right moment to lay their cards on the table and, of course, the right moment will be on Sunday, when the last points available for this WSK Champions Cup will be awarded.
NICKLAS NIELSEN GIVES THE CHASE TO THE TITLE IN KF.
Despite his good start, Nicklas Nielsen (Tony Kart-Vortex-Vega) did not achieved a great performance last week: the top driver of the category is now obliged to pursue the leader, the Dutch Richard Verschoor (Exprit-Vortex-Vega). Nielsen made is eager to recover: he set the best time and grabbed the pole-position thanks to his 46”252. He drove faster than last week’s pole-sitter, the English Tom Bale (FA Alonso-Vortex-Vega). Bale, too, did better than his last Friday’s performance, even though he had to be content with the second position, 67 milliseconds behind Nielsen. The underdog Alexander Vartanyan (Tony Kart-Vortex-Vega) is third, 80 milliseconds behind; he finished ahead of the Polish Karol Basz (Kosmic-Vortex-Vega), another top driver obliged to close the gap after his not good performance in the first round. Among the fastest drivers also the English Max Fewtrell (FA Alonso-Vortex-Vega), fifth with a gap of 0”204 from the pole-sitter. Leonardo Lorandi (Tony Kart-Vortex-Vega) is immediately behind: the Italian driver is looking for his first good result in KF.
LORENZO COLOMBO IS THE NEW REFERENCE POINT IN KFJ.
The Italian Lorenzo Colombo (Tony Kart-LKE-Vega) is today’s leader of KF qualifying. He set an outstanding 47”467, three tenths of a second faster than the Swedish Christian Lundgaard’s (Tony Kart-Vortex-Vega) pole-position last Friday. The Danish Noah Watt(FA Alonso-Vortex-Vega) is second by a hair’s breadth; he is a millisecond ahead of the American Logan Sargeant (FA Alonso-Vortex-Vega), while Davide Lombardo (Exprit-Vortex-Vega) is third. Lundgaard, the winner of the first round and the current leader of the standing, will have to fight hard if he wants to keep the leadership: he is only sixth, behind the Indonesian Presley Martono (Tony -Vortex-Vega).
DENNIS HAUGER AIMS AT THE POLE-POSITION IN 60 MINI.
The Norwegian Dennis Hauger (CRG-LKE-Vega) made himself conspicuous in 60 Mini: he was the fastest in three out of five sessions of free practice and set the overall best time with 54”026. Remarkable performance also for the Italian Mattia Michelotto (Top Kart-Parilla-Vega) and Rocco negro (Top Kart-LKE-Vega), who set the best times in the two remaining sessions. They are all ready to give the chase to the leader, the Italian Luigi Coluccio (Tony Kart-LKE-Vega), the winner of last Sunday’s race: at the moment it seems he preferred to hide his real potential.
